CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, IN PALM _~F_ACH COU~fY,
FLORIDA CONCEP~ING DIVERSION OF A PART OF
GASOLINE TAX FOR MUNICIPAL Pi~PiM~S.
WHEreAS the Oity of Delray Beach, in Palm Beach County, Florida,
in common with mam~ small towns throughout the State, is faced with the
problem of providing municipal benefits, such as street improvement, street
repairs, fire protection, police protection and others, with inadequate
income; and
WHEREAS, there are many small homes in Delray Beach, and in other
similar communities, whose owners are in some cases partially, and in many
cases wholly exempt from the payment of any taxes, due to homestead exemption;
and
WHE~F~S, therefore, part of the financial difficulties of the
small towns aforesaid is due to the lack of taxing power on homestead property;
and
WHE~ all automobiles use the public streets of the munici-
palities, whether such cars be locally owned or transient cars; and such
streets have to be maintained for the use of all cars; and
WHEIFAS all cars pay the tax ~ gasoline; and some of the gasoline
tax could and ought to be used in repairing the streets such cars wear out,
now therefore
HE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DKLRAY BEACH,
IN PAIR BEACH COBI~TY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Council does hereby go on record as
favoring legislation at the coming session of the Florida Legislature, which
would allocate to the various municipalities of the State a fixed portion of
the gasoline tax (perhaps one cent per gallon) the same to be used by the
municipalities for the purpose of maintaining, repairing and constructing
streets within such municipality.
Section 2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the
Florida League of Municipalities, the Palm Beach Oounty Legislative Delegation
and the Palm Beach County Commission.

other municipalities as may be determined.
