~A~REAS, U. S. Highway No. 1 from the Town of Boynton Beach
South through the City of Delray Beach is in a state of deplorable
condition and rePair unbecoming to the State of Florida and to this
section of Florida, and brings great discredit to them, and
~,$ U. S, No. i is probably the most heavily travelled
highway in the State of Florida, and is the main artery for the
annual winter migration to South Florida, and
~A~tEREAS, the State of Florida has in past years built a re-
putation for its excellent highways and has reconstructed and im-
proved said Highway No.. i through various other cities and towns,
and
~..~REAS, the City of Defray Beach has provided by ordinance
a twenty foot set back building requirement for all future building
along U~ S. i within %he City of Delray Beach, which will afford off
street Parking should it be required, and
~,~tEREAS, the City of Delray Beach is ready and willing to coope-
rate in each and every manner possible with the rebuilding and im~
proVement of said Highway including the enacting of parking restrict~on~
on said highway ~Athin the City limits, if deemed necessary;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That the. City of Delray Beach endorses, urges, and pleas,
that the State Road Departm~.nt of the State of Florida take such
action as may be necessary to eliminate this discr~dit to Florida
by the reconstruction of said Highway No. i South from Boynton
Beach through the City of Del~my Beach.
2. That through the City of Delray Beach said U~ S; Highway
No. i be repaved for sufficient width to afford four lanes of traffic;
that storm sewers, curbs and gutters b¢~ built, and sidewalks be rebuilt
in connection with said Highway No~ 1.
3. That this City CoqTcil of D~lray Beach consider this project
as their paramount project., and dedicate their efforts to the attainment
and completior~ of this improven~.nto
~. That all civic organt~.~tions of Delray Beach be urged
to unite their efforts in the attainment of this goal, and take
such action as they may deem fit to expedite this cause°
5. That a copy of this resolution be immediately forwarded to
the following:
a. The Governor of bhe State of Florida

c. The Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County
