WHEREAS, Alexander R. Nininger, Jr. spent the greater part
of his life in Lake Worth and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, between which
cities, the United States Army has established a field and base, which
will be named in honor of some outstanding member of the Arno; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nininger, Second Lieutenant, 5?th Infantry
(Philippine Scouts), United States Army, although assigned to a company
not then engaged in combat, voluntarily attached himself to Company K
of the same regiment, while that unit was being attacked by an enemy
force superior in fire power, and after enemy snipers in trees and fox
holes had stopped counter attacks, to regain part of the position,
Lieutenant Nininger, in hand to hand fight, repeatedly forced his way
into the hostile position, and, although exposed to heavy enemy fire,
he continued to attack with rifle and hand grenades, and succeeded in
destroying several enemy groups in fox holes and enen~ snipers, and,
although wounded three times, continued his attacks until he was killed,
after which his body was found surrounded by dead enemies; and
W~AS, Lieutenant Nininger was the first person in this
War to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for his conspicuous
gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty on Bataan,
Philipp~e Islands; and
WHEEEAS, the City Council is of the opinion that his memory
and fine example shca~ld be perpetuated;
NOW,-THEEEFC~E, BE IT, AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY 12E
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY CF DEISAY BEACH, FL~IDA:
1. That the War Department of the United States shall be,
and it is hereby petitinned to name the Army Field at Boca Raton, Florida,
as ,Nininger Field".
2. That this resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
City Council, and that copies thereof be forwarded to Honorable Ho L,
Stimson, Secretary of War, and Colonel Lawrence Cart, Commander of said
Field.
