CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORID~
ENDORSING THE REOPENING OF STATE
ROAD NO. 140 FROM DELRAY BEACH TO
BOCA RATON, FLORID~..
~HEREAS, the State Road Department has allocated
funds for the location of State Road 140 from Delray Beach to
Boca Raton ~d that a survey party is now locating said pro-
~osed Ocean Boulevard right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Delray
Beach, Florida, and the citizens of the southern portion of
Palm Beach County appreciate the efforts now being made by the
Road Department in making tl~is survey and in its efforts to
reopen trois portion of State Road 140 which has been closed
since i928 hurricane; and
~,'HEREAS, t~le City Councilmen tould like to
call to the attention of the State Road Depart~ent that
numerous homes and other improvements are now being constructed
along said State Road 140 between Delray and Boca Haton, and
that if said road is reopened and repaved thousands of dollars o£
improvements will be built along said road, and that there
are no delinquent taxes on most property abutting on said
State Road 140, and the entire eig~ miles distance between
Delray Beach anm boca Raton consists of property carrying a
taxable value of several million dollars, aha is all suitable
for building purposes.
NOW, Tli~REFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City
Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, that the State
Eoad Department is hereby ~etitioned and re~ueste~ to continue
its efforts in the reopening ana paving of Ocean Boulevard,
State Road 140, from ti~e City of Detray Beach to the Town
of Boca. Raton, ana that the City of Delray Beach will use and
lend its assistance to the State Road Department in bringing
about the paving oZ' said Ocean Boulevard and in the procurement
of right-of-ways for the same.
BE IT FURT~iER RESOLVED, that a convict camp
be moved into this vicinity, preferably to the County Stockade
located in the City of Fort Lauderdale, for the purpose of
clearing ano. grading the rig~t-of-way of ~tate ~r~oad 140
from Delray Beach to Boca Raton.
BE IT FURTI-iEE ~.ESOLVED that as soon ~s possible,
or practicable, that f~ds be allocated for the purpose of
pa~ving ana opening said ~tate f~oad 140 bet~.een Delray' Beaci'~
to Boca. P:~aton, Florid~-~, so tf~.t the same can be used by persons
owning lands along said road.
