A Special Heeting of the City Commission vas held in the
Commission Chambers at 4:00 P. H., with Hayor Hike Yargates in
the Chair, City Hanager W. E. Lawson Jr., City Attorney John H.
Adams, and the following Commissioners being present, Emory J.
Barrow and Howard Lee Cromer.
· his meeting had been scheduled for the purpose of a Public
Hearing on the Budget for 1956-1957 in accordance with Article
Section 72 of the City Charter, and in conformance with require-
ments outlined therein, Notice of said meeting was duly advertised.
Hayor Yargates called the meeting to order, identifying its
purpose and invited protests or suggestions, if any, concerning the
proposed Budget submitted by City Hanager W. E. Lawson Jr., at the
regular meeting of August 13th, 1956.
Hr. A. J. Hichael, addressing the Commission, advised of having
had considerable experience in the operation of a Fire Depratment
expressed his belief that two (2) 500 gallon pumper trucks xhould be
furnished the Fire Department instead of the one (1) 1000 gallon
pumper called for in the Budget.
Fire Chief John Gregory informed the Commission that after
careful study of his department's requirement, and due to local
conditions, both he and the City Hanager were convinced that the
1000 gallon pumper would best serve the need of the Fire Department.
The Commission authorized the City Hanager to effect the
