11-03-48 NOVE~F~ 3, 1948 A Reg~la~ meeting of the City Council of the City of Delray Beach was held in t~e Council Chambers with Mayor L.E. Brannon in the Chair, City Manager Chas. E. Black, and the following Councilmen present: M. M. DeWitt, John Kabler, Nell ~acMtllan, and C.J. White, a quorum being present. The following list of Council candidates was read: B. Eugene Burd G. Donald Hendricks Walter A. Roth Edward A. Schellenberg - J. L. Saunders A motion was made by Councilman DeWitt that the candidates being qualified be certified to Primary Election. The motion was seconded by Councilman White and unanimously carried. Upon motion of Councilman DeWitt, the City Clerk was instructed to print 2250 ballots. Motion was seconded by Councilman White and unanimous ly c arri ed. The procla=mtion of the Mayor was ordered to be published upon motion of Councilman De'itt, seconded by Councilman Kabler and unanimously carried. A motion was made by Councilman MacMillan, seconded by Council- man DeWitt and unanimously carrie~ that the County Commissioners be ~equested to allow the City to use voting machines. The Council discussed with Mr. C. Y. Byrd the need for a side- walk between the canal and the beach. He requested a letter asking the Board of County Commissioners to cooperate to the extent of hauling ~ock until a new road and bridge are constructed. Councilman DeWitt moved that the County Commissions be asked to work with us ~ a ,,temporary sidewalk construction from the canal to the beach., motion was seconded by Councilman Kabler and unanimous ly carried. A request from Mrs. Kirschbaum for a free license to operate a tailor shop was denied. An offer from Mr. Campbell to sell a lot in Block 51 to the City for $750.00 was tabled untilthe next meeting. A letter from the Tennis )Committee was read. The Council instructed the City Manager to write a letter as follows - 75~ per one-half day every day, $25.00 ann~al fee, and $4. 00 per week. Ne was also instructed to advise the comittee of the financial standing of the Tennis Courts during the past year. Bills totaling ~23,215.29 were approwed for payment subject to approval of theFinance Committee, upon motion of Councilman Kabler, seconded by Councilman MacM~llan..and unanimously carried. A meeting of the school board was discussed) regarding a water supply for the new school site. M~. HeL. Watkins, Buperin- NOVEMBFm 3, 1948 tendent of Public Schools stated they wished to work with the city on a solution toward extending water supply to the school. After extensive discussion the matter was turned over to the City Manager, Mr. Wortman and Mr. Watkins to work out a feasible payment by construc~ting and financing a pipe line from our source of supply to the property of the school Board. The motion was made by Councilman DeWitt, seconded by Councilman MacMtllan~~ and unanimously carried. Messrs. Pruyser and Byrd agreed to dediate 100 ft. right- of-way for public utilities or highway.
