The Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, met in special session
at 8:00 P.M. on call of the Mayor, in conformity with Sec. 137 of the City
Charter and Secs. lO3.10 and 103.17 of the Florida Statutes 19~l for the pur-
pose of canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the Referendum
Election on Ordinance No. G-19 of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, said
election having been held on the 6th da~ of March, 19d7, in the Delray Bowling
Arcade, Delray Beach, Florida. The City Attorney and Councilmen B.C. Butler,
M.M. DeWitt, J.B. Smith, were present.
A copy of the Mayor's call and notice of this Special meeting and his
affidavit of serving said notice to each member of the Council were read and
entered in the minutes and the Clerk was directed to file said copy and
affidavit with the minutes of this meeting.
The Mayor and the City Clerk each presented to the Council a certified
return of said election signed by the Inspectors and Clerk of said election
and delivered by them to the Mayor and City Clerk. After examination and
canvass of the said certified returns by the members of the Council present,
and there being no objections thereto, it was moved by Councilman Smith,
seconded by Councilman Butler and unanimously carried, that the following
resolution be adopted~
RESOLUTION NO. 612
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF D~RAY BEACH, FLORIDA,
CANVASSING AND APPROVING THE RETURN
OF THE REFERENDUM ELECTION ON ORDI-
NANCE NO. G-19 OF THE CITY OF D~JRAY
BEACH, FLORIDA, AND MAKING FINDINGS
AS TO SAID REF~DUM ELECTION AND
DECLARING THE RESULTS THEREOF.
WHEREAS, Certified election returns delivered to the Mayor and City Clerk
by the Inspectors and Clerk in charge of the Referendum Election on Ordinance
No. G-19 of the City of Delray Beach, said election having been held on March
6, 19&7, show v6tes to have been cast as follows on said Ordinance No. G-19
entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA,
GRANTING TO FLORIDA P(Y~ER & LIGHT
COMPANY, ITS SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS,
AN ELECTRIC FRANCHISE, AND IMPOSING
PROVISIONS AND CONDITIONS RELATING
THERETO."

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Delray
MARCH 6th, 1947.
Beach, Florida:
1. That said certified election returns be and hereby are approved.
2. That the following findings are hereby made and declared:
(a) That. there were 923 qualified electors residing in the
City of Delray Beach, Florida, who were legally Qualified
to participate in said election;
· (b) That there were a total of 558 votes cast in said election
in favor of the approval of Ordinance No. G-19 of the City
of Delray Beach;
(c) That there were a total of 2~3 votes cast in said election
against the approval of Ordinance No. G-19 of the City of
Delray Beach.
3. That said Ordinance No. G-19 of the City of Delray Beach, Florida,
be and the same hereby is declared passed.
The following Resolution was then introduced:
RESOLUTION NO. 613
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, CONCERN-
INGTHE DEATH OF CLYDE R. SMXTH.
WHEREAS Clyde R. Smith died on the 5th day of March, 1947, and
WHEREAS Clyde R. Smith was a very valued employee of the City of
Delray Beach, Florida, and an active citizen in all community affairs, and
WHEREAS the City Council feels that the City has lost one of its best
liked employees and the community has lost one of its most esteemed citizens,
NC~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Delray Beach, Florida, that we hereby extend to Mrs. Clyde R. Smith and to
the other members of Mrs. Smith's family our sorrow over their loss and over
the loss which the community has sustained in Mr. Smith's death; that a copy
of this resolution be placed in the permanent records of the City of Delray
Beach and a copy be sent to Mrs. Smith.
PASSED IN Special Session on this the 6th day of March, 1947.
