12-01-47SpMtg DE~ 1ST, 19~7 A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chambers at 7:30 P.M. to prepare the ballot box for the General Election to be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, and for any other necessary business, with Mayor M. M. DeWitt in the Chair, and City Manager H. P. Edmond, City Attorney J. W. Nowlin, and the following Councilmen presents B. C. Butler, F. B. McNeece, J. B. Smith and C. J. White, a quorum being present. The following equipment for the General Election to be held on December 2nd, after being checked by the Council and the City Attorney, was placed in the ballot box~ Two official voter' s lists. One absentee ballot One City Charter amended to date. Two tally sheets Two scratch pads Pencils Two certificates to be used by the Clerk and Inspectors of the Election Board in recording the number of votes cast. Ballots. The ballot box was then sealed and placed in the vault, to be delivered to the Clerk of the Election Board on the morning of December 2nd. At the request of Councilman Butler, Mr. Edmond was asked to check the possibility of installing a street light on N. W. 4th Avenue, in the colored section, as requested by residents in that vicinity. Several property owners resi~ing on Nassau Street appeared before the Council~ com- plaining of the flooded condition of the streets around their homes, and request~_~g that some temporary measure be taken immediately to drain the water from Nassau S~m~eet. City Manager Edmond explained that an open drain had been blocked off when Mr. Reid laid a pipe line down Shulson Street in his hew development, but that manholes and drain pipes would be installed in Nassau Street as soon as the materials w~re available, which would take care of this drainage problem permanently; in the mean- time temporary relief would be given the residents of this section at once. City Manager Edmond asked the authorization of the Council to employ Mr. George S. Brockway, Engineer, for two or three days to stake out the west line of the side- walk and establish sidewalk grades on the west side of Ocean Boulevard from Atlantic Avenue south to Miramar Drive, and ina motion made by Councilman Butler, seconded by Councilman McNeece, unanimously carried, this request was granted.
