RE: RESOLUTION TO APPLY FOR THE DMSION OF FORESTRY 2005
EMERGENCY HURRICANE SUPPLEMENTAL URBAN AND COMMUNITY
FORESTRY GRANT
DATE: JUNE 10, 2005
ITEM BEFORE THE COMMISSION
The item before the Commission is the approval of a Resolution which acknowledges the City intends to
submit an application for the 2005 Emergency Hurricane Supplemental Urban and Community Forestry
Grant, and further that the City Commission authorizes the City Manager to enter into an Urban and
Community Forestry Grant Memorandum of Agreement, should the City be awarded the Grant.
BACKGROUND
The Florida Division of Forestry has established funding to help communities offset costs associated with
tree damage from the hurricanes which occurred during the 2004 storm season. The City intends to
apply under at least one category of remedial arboricultural practices and possibly for a site specific
planting or exotic vegetation removal. The City's Cemetery is the major focus of this grant application.
The grant is a 75% state, 25% city match, which can be m labor or in kind services. Typically, the most
money that can be awarded a city our size is $75,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Commission give favorable consideration to allow the City to submit an
application for the 2005 Emergency Hurricane Supplemental Urban and Community Forestry Grant
Program, and to allow the City Manager to enter into a Urban and Community Forestry Memorandum of
Agreement, once the City has been awarded the grant.
