BACKGROUND The Florida Division of Forestry has established funding to help communities offset costs associated with tree damage from the hurricanes which occurred during the 2004 storm season. The City intends to apply under at least one category of remedial arboricultural practices and possibly for a site specific planting or exotic vegetation removal. The City's Cemetery is the major focus of this grant application. The grant is a 75% state, 25% city match, which can be m labor or in kind services. Typically, the most money that can be awarded a city our size is $75,000.00. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the City Commission give favorable consideration to allow the City to submit an application for the 2005 Emergency Hurricane Supplemental Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program, and to allow the City Manager to enter into a Urban and Community Forestry Memorandum of Agreement, once the City has been awarded the grant. ~C- , RESOLUTION NO. 42-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRA Y BEACH, FLORIDA, TO ENTER INTO AN URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANT MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES, DIVISION OF FORESTRY WHEREAS, trees are an important part of our community; and WHEREAS, the City of Dekay Beach desires to apply for the 2005 Emergency Hurricane Supplemental Urban and Community Forestry Grant which would provide monies to help the City of Dekay Beach offset costs to mitigate tree damage from the 2004 storm season; and WHEREAS, the City of Dekay Beach wishes to enter into an Urban and Community Forestry Grant memorandum of Agreement between the City of Dekay Beach, Florida and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in the event the City is awarded the grant.
