65-87 ORDINANCE NO. 65-87 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2, "ADMINISTRATION", OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, BY AMENDING SECTION 2-1, "COMPENSATION OF COUNCILMEMBER AND MAYOR", TO PROVIDE THAT EACH COUNCILMEMBER'S SALARY AND THE MAYOR'S SALARY MAY BE INCREASED ANNUALLY THROUGH CERTAIN COST OF LIVING INCREASES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, '~he workload of the City Council has increased dramatically in the last few years; and, WHEREAS, this increase in work program necessitates the Mayor and City Council Members to devote more time to-City affairs; and, WHEREAS, the City Charter at Section 3.02 provides that the City Council may provide for the annual salary of Councilmembers and the Mayor by ordinance, and have codified same at Section 2-1 of the Code of Ordinances. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That Chapter 2, "Administration", Section 2-1, "Compensation of councilmember and mayor", of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, be, and the same is, hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-1. Compensation of couneilmember and mayor. Each member of the city council, during the term Of his or her term of office, shall receive compensation in the amount of four hundred dollars ($400.00) per month, and the mayor, during his or her term of office, shall receive compensation in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) per month; provided, however, that the city council may grant cost of living increases annually to such sums based upon those cost of living increases, if any, provided to the city's general employees, with such increases for members of the city council and mayor not commencing until the commencement of the terms of council members or mayor elected at the next regular election. Section 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. Section 3. That this ordinance shall become effective March 31, 1988.
