THIS IS A MATTER WHICH WE BE~IEVE SHOU~D BE GONE INTO BY THE COUNCI~ AND AN ATTEMPT MADE TO HAVE AN ORDINANCE DRAWN GIVING PROPERTY OWNERS AND MERCHANTS SUFFICIENT TIME TO REMOVE SUCH SIGNS AS PROTRUDE OVER THE SIDEWA~KS AND ATTACH THEM OR OTHER APPROPRIATE SIGNS TO THE FACE OF THE BUI~DINGS. THE TIME IS COMING WHEN NEW BUI~DINGS WI~~ BE BUI~T GN OUR MAIN STREETS AND IT WI~~ BE PERHAPS PRETTY HARD TO REGU~ATE THE TYPE OF SIGNS TO BE USED IN VIEW OF THE FACT THAT IN THE PAST MOST ANY KIND OF SIGN COU~D BE USED WITH- OUT MUCH CRITICISM ON THE PART OF EITHER THE VARIOUS COUNCI~S OR THE PUB~IC. ORNAMENTA~ SIGNS SWINGING OUT OVER THE SI.EWA~KS ARE HAZARD- OUS AND IF NOT VERY SECURE~Y FASTENED TO THE BUI~OING OR ARRANGED SO THAT THEY CAN BE TAKEN DOWN IN THE HURRICANE SEASON COU~D PROVE HAZARDOUS TO THE PEOP~E AND ADJOINING DUI~DINGS. THE P~ANNING BOARD HAS HAD A COPY OF THE ORDINANCE RE~ATING TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF, TYPE OF, ANII P~ACING .OF ADVERTISING I ~. JUNE IBTH, 1946 SIGNS, WHICH ORDINANCE IS IN EFFECT IN MIAMI, F~ORIBA. As MORE BUI~OINGS ARE BUI~T IN DE~RAY BEACH, THE P~ANNING BOARD FEE~S THAT IF SUCH AN ORDINANCE WOU~D BE PUT INTO EFFECT SO AS TO REMOVE A~~ OF THE PRESENT SIQNS AND HAVE THEM FASTENED TO THE FACE OF BUI~DINGS IT WOU~B IMPROVE THE ~GOKS OF OUR STREETS AND NOT IN ANY WAY INJURE THE ADVERTISING OF ANY BUSINESS. THE P~ANNING BOARD FEE~S THAT ANY MEASURE THAT COU~D BE PUT INTO EFFECT WHICH WOU~D ADD TO THE APPEARANCE OF WIDER STREETS WOU~D BE A GOOO MEASURE. WE MAKE THIS AS A SUGQESTIGN AND IF THE COUNCI~ SEES FIT, THE P~ANNING BOARD WOU~D BE Q~AB TO MEET WITH THEM AND GO OVER THE CITY OF MIAMI OROINANCE RE~ATING TO SIGNS.
