03-13-44 Regular 226B COONCn. CHAMBER Maroh 13, 1944 The Counoi1 met in regular session with City Attorney Nowlin and all members of the Counoi1 being present. The minutes of regular lIlllilett ng held February 28th, and special meeting held March 6th were ~ead by the Clerk and approved as read. 1 , .1 I 'J j " j A communication from Ella Harding was read, and ordered turned over to the Zoning Commission for their study and recom- mendation to the Council. Letters from the Painter's Local No. 1260 and United Brotherhood of Carpenter's Local No. 1927 endorsing movement t6r new post office building for De1ray Beach were read and ordered filed. The Clerk read letter from a Seaboard Air Line Railway official advising Council that arrangements had been made for taxi to meet trains 43 and 807. Mayor Thayer said he would write them further to try to obtain public telephone for use of passengers. Letter from Mr. George G. Blum regarding the wearing away of beach was discussed by the Council. By motion regularly made, seconded and carried, the Clerk was instructed to send letter to County Commissioner C. Y. Byrd with request that the County Commissioners investigate same. Waters, Chairman of the Finance Committee reported his committee had held a meeting during the past week at whioh time they instructed the City Auditor and Clerk to leave a~counts set up on books as they have been, for the balance of this fiscal year. F. W. Wodischek, Chairman of Wat$r Committee reported there were 1120 w~l~~ ~\~rs on March 1st. He also informed the Council that ~a'S. 'Senror and he were getting up speoifioat;1ons for work to be done on water tanks, which will be submitted to the Council later . 1,. R. MoFee, Chairman of the Sanitation Commi,ttee had the Clerk read' letter from Mr. H. P. Lamson in which he agreed to pay cost of running sewer through his lmt 17 in block 112, with the understanding that anyone else tapping into same ,~uld 22G9 Maroh 13, 1944 have to pay him a pro~rata share of the expense. After dis- oussing the letter, Mr. MoFee requested the other members of the Council contact Mr. Lamaon. City Attorney Nowlin said he would have Mr. Lamson call at his office and go into the matter thoroughly with him and would report back to the Council his find ings. \ Counoilman McFee also advised the Council that Mr. George Singer was very anxious to have sewer extended to serve his home, and was willing to pay cost of having same installed as were Mr. Simon and Mr. 'George Pinckney who also wanted sewer servioe. W. A. Jacobs, Chairman of Parks and Beautification Committee, recommended that corner stones be established on new oemetery addition property. He made a motion to this effeot which was seconded by Mr. Waters and carried unanimously on roll oall. Mayor Thayer and repairs badly. stream Engineers:' reported the City streets needed oiling He read the following letter from Gulf Estimate on Oiling for the City De1ray Beach, Fla. streets, starting from Corner N.W. Second St. running east to carner of N.R. Second & N.E. Seventh Ave. then run South to S.E. Seventy Ave. & S.E. Second st. then run West on Second St. to S.W. Second st. & S.W. First Street, then run North on First Street to N.W. Second st. Corner. Total yards 92444 of oiling. Prices will run three tents nine cents Sqr. yard 2 i tents Eight and half cents a Sqr. yard. We advise you to use semi-solid asphul t, us ing three tenths to the square yard. We would be glad to summit you a bid on this oiling when you are ready for sane. Cost of patching these streets will run $836.00, taking about twenty-two days. There is realy about one hundred and fifty- sq. yards. of oiling which should be done at this t:!me, which would save the cit.y twenty- 22'70 five peroent less than the cost in 1945. \ Yours very truly, /s/ G;over c. Baker i ) I i The Mayor stated he was calling a meeting of Streets & Lighting Committee the latter part of the week at which time they will discuss repairs to City streets. Mayor Thayer reported the Police Depar,tment had made forty-six arrests during month of February and oollected $362.50 in fines and $335. in bonds during said month. He also reported that the Fire Department had answered,j12 brush and two house fires during February. Mayor Thayer advised the Council mhat the Tic Toc was being kept under striot watch and if any violations of our city laws take place, proper steps will be taken to satisfy demand made by petiti.on signers for closing of this plaoe. The following bids were submitted for work at Oity Hall building:- Delray Plumbing & Speoialty Company C. & G. Plumb ing Company Genton '8 $l35.00 141. 00 175.00 By motion regularly made, seconded and oarried,the work was awarded to the low bidder - Delray Plumbing and Specialty Company. Bids were read for plumbing work at Pool building, and were as follows: )) Genton C. & G. Plumbing Co. $76 . 50 65.00 ; The ft!~~N was instructed to notify C. & G. Plumbing Company that they would be awarded t1is work after they put up $500. surety bond which our City Ordinance requires, by motion regularly made, seconded and carried. 227:1 ~. Councilman McFee instructed the Clerk to notify all local plumbing contractors thet they must post the $500. surety bond. , , Councilman McFee offered to oontact Dr. VOgler regarding inoculation of dogs, and would report back at next meeting. City Attorney Nowlin informed the Council that the manager of the Palmistry establishment had oal1ed on him and stated if he were allowed to operate through the month of March, he would then leave town. The Council instructed Mr. Nowlin to advise the manager they were agreeable to this arrangement. By motion regularly made, seconded and carried, bills numbered l441 to 1447 and 1449 through 1483 were ordered paid after being approved by the Finanoe Committee.
