07-15-39 Adjourned la&l \....~, . ',.,-."., '1'\ ,> COUNCIL CHAMBER July 15, 1939 't ll. The Council met in adjourned session, on call of the Mayor, at 9130 A.M. as a Board of Equalization, with the following members present: Mr. Bradshaw, Mr. Crego, Mr. Hall, Mr. H~ll. Mr. Miller was absent. W.O. Jelks came before the Board, in the interests of Carl A. Jones, asking a reduction in the assessed valuation placed on his 62 acres in Section 9, which lies between the F.E.C. Railway and Swinton Avenue. It was recommended that one-third of the property,' having Swinton Avenue frontage, be assessed at $125.00 per acre; one third in the center at $100.00 per acre; and one third on the railroad at $75.00 per acre, or an average assessment of $100.00 per acre. This would effect a reduction from $7750.00 to $6200.00. Mr. Jelks said this VIOuld be satisfactory. A. George raised objection to his personal property assessment stating that his stock was less than the Novelty. Dress Shop, yet it was assessed higher. He asked that i% be reduced accordingly. Considerable discussion ensued but it was finally recommended that A. George, The Novelty Dress Shop, and M.N. Weinerman be all assessed for the same amount, viz., $1260.00. '. It was further contended that the attorneys were assessed too low as compared to the doctors and other pro- fessional offices, and recommendation was made that the two lawyers be assessed for $150.00, and Dr. Farber for $?50. There being no further complainants present to' present objections, it was moved that the Council adjourn as a Board of Equalization to meet in special session again on or before regular Council meeting night, July 24th, at which time all recommendations, as agreed upon by the Board, may be embodied in one resolution and regularly passed by the Board. ~)'iz ~~. t o-vM'F' e y Clerk APPROVED: eLJ!L~
