08-15-38 Special 994 COUNCIL CHAMBER August 15, 1938 The Council met in special session at ?:30 P.M. on call of the Mayor, for the purpose of placing on first reading and passage., a n elect- rical ordinance providing for electrical inspection and for the licensing of electrical contractors and regulating the sale of certain electrical"pro- ducts; also an ordinance regulating and licensing the profession of barbering. It was moved by Mr. Gwynn seconded by Mr. Wodischek and unanimously carried that the folbw- ing ordinance be placed on its first reading: ORDINANCE 230 . BOOK 4 - AN ORDINANCE FOR SAFEGUARING LIFE AND PROPERTY BY REGULATING, AND PROVIDING FOR THE INSPECTION OF, ELECTRIC ~ITRING, DEVICES, APPLIANCES AND E~UIPMENT; CREATING THE OFFICE OF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR AND PRESCRIBING HIS AUTHORITY AND DUTIES; REQUIRING THAT NO ELECTRIC WIRING DEVICES, FIXTURES, APPLIANCES OR EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED WITHOUT FIRST SECURING A PERMIT THEREFOR; CREATING A BOARD OF ELECTRICAL EXAMINERS; PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF PERSONS, FIRMS AND CORPORATIONS ENGAGING IN THE BUSINESS OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING OR EMPLOYING ELECTRICIANS TO DO CERTAIN ELECTRICAL WORK ON LIMITED PREMISES; MAKING IT UNLNNFUL TO ENGAGE IN THE BUSINESS OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING OR TO UNDERTAKE THE EXECUTION OF ELECTRICAL WORK WITHOUT A LICENSE, EXCEPT AS OTHER~~SE PROVIDED; MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO SELL AT RETAIL CERTAIN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS UNLESS SUCH PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY THE ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR; PROVIDING PE~ALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDIN- ANCES IN CONFLICT ~~TH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE. The ordinance having been read in full, it was moved by Mr. Gwynn that same be passed on. its first reading. The Ordinance having been read in full, it was regUlarly moved, seconded and carried that same be passed on its first reading. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the Clerk be authorized to accept settlement of any t~xes on the adjusted basis agreed upon by the Tax Adjustment Board, prior to discontinuance of its policy of tax adjustments. By motion regularly made, seconded and carried the Clerk was instructed to deliver tax sale certificates to the City Attorney for foreclosure on all of Block 45 and for acreage, up to one hundred acres, in Section l?, suitable for municipal purposes. The Clerk agreed to prepare a statement of the pro- perties and certificates in question to submit to the Council, for its approval,at next meeting. The City Clerk was directed to write Thos. F. Rice, asking that he remove pine trees on his property, it being reported that one of these had recently blown across the highway and tied up 996 COUNCIL CHAMBER - August 15, 1938 traffic; that all were in poor condition and a menace to the public safety. It was reco~~ended that said property owner be notified that if these were not removed by September 1st the City would have this done, as a safety measure, before the storm period sets in. The Chairman of the Street Department was authorized to have the street level of N.E. First Avenue raised so as to eliminate the hole in front of L.F. Ranson's residence which has been omplained of for several years. After a discussion of the proposed cleanup work to be conducted by the Sanitary Committee, the Council by motion regularly made, seconded and carried adjourned. ft.
