COUNCIL CHAMBER
October 4, 1937
The Council convened in special session
at 8:00 P.M. to take up severallpending matters of
business.
The City Attorney, in answer to an enquiry
from the City Clerk, advised that the $500.00 retail
liquor vendor's license permitted sale of liquor
both over the bar and in sealed containers.
The Council instructed the City Attorney
to draw an ordinance 9rohibiting the operation of the
machines commonly known as slot machines and another
regulating and licensing certain types of trade
machines, skill games etc.
1rr. Byrd advised the Council, that under
Senate Bill 9!7, city ~icense could ,no~ be collected
from salesman or trucks deliveringffr6M'~ central
establishment which pays a city license in the City
in which said establishment is located.
Mr. Byrd asked the Council's advice re-
garding millage to be levied for the various bondholders,
and in particular, Calmgrove Securities, Inc. The
members, generally, were of the opinion'that a two-
mill levy was out of proportion for these people and
that a spread levy, if obtainable, would be prefer-
able. The cost of defending suit and a sking for such
a spread levy would be about $200.00, Mr. Byrd said.
It was accordingly moved by Mr. Wodischek that the City
Attorney be instructed to file defence and request a
spread levy for said Calmgrove Securities Corporation.
If a compromise levy of less than 2 mills could be
obtained from Marshall B. Wood, attorney for said
corporation, the City Attorney agreed to report same
to the Council before filing petition, as above
instructed.

At this point Councilman Wodischek left
and did not return for the balance of the meeting.
