The Mayor and Ci ty Attorney were a bsen t. The minute:3 of the last regular meeting were read, and after correcting same to show 7 nhiteway lights turned on instead of 10, the minutes were regularly approved as corrected. A letter was read from the Florida Industrial Com- mission wi th~e:f"erence to aSJesGments due from self insurers under the Florida Workmen's Compensation Act. 1ne letter TIas ordered filed and the Clerk instructed to take care of this ma t'er,as renuired. A communication from the Florifu1 Inland Navigation District was read in regard to obtaining spoil areas aburtting the F.E.C. Canal for the deposit of dredged material incident to' per- iodical clean-out opera tions by the Government. After some dis... cussion this was ordered filed for future consideration. Mr. Lot Smith addressed the Council requesting the City to build a dyke or gate to .prevent salt water from backing up on the )"I'operty lying just North of Atlantic Avenue during high tide. He said this salt water killed vegeta1bion and he was afraid it would deGtroy the royal palms along the Avenue if i t con~ ."t;inued to overflow on these lands. The matter wa:> discussed and .:JIl'r. Barton finally moved that the Finance Committee prooeed to secure consent of Dr. Williams to build the necessary control gate on his property abutting the canal. Mr. Genton seconded the Elotion and on roll call, the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Mr. LB. Davis appeared before the CounGil, (Ollr'uiring if the Clerk would be permitted to issue him a license some time in the near future fqt the operation of four riding devices and three straight sales conces~~ions nf hi(:j travelling show. Mr. Hill reported that resurfacing of two of the shuffle board courts had been completed and that the remaining two would be done immediately.
