01-09-28 RegularCOUNCIL ROOIf January 9th, 1928. The Council met in regular session, President J. L. Troup presiding. All Councilmen and~the laiayor were present. The minutes of tkie previous meetings were read and approved. A letter from Mr. J. L. Soulthorp protestinV; his 1927 tax assessment was read to the Council. The Clerk was in- structed to advise Mr. Soulthorp that the time for complaints on 1927 taxes had passed and to inform him of the date of the meeting of the Equalization Board for 1928. It was moved by Lair. Keen and seconded by Itirs. YVarfield. that the Clerk and Mayor be authorized to sign the depository agreement with the Central Farmers Trust Company providing for security for deposits on approval of the City Attorney and Finance Committee. The motion was carried unanimously. A letter from the Central Farmers Trust Company regard- ing the transference of the city's money from the Atlantic IJational Bank to the Central Farmers Trust Company was read and referred to the Finance Committee. 6 letter Prom R. It was moved.' by Mr. Keen, seconded by Mrs. Warfield and carried unanimously that the ,Council allow a reduotion in assessment from X1950 to X275 on the above mentioned property and the Clerk be in- structed to refund b's. Smock the difference in taxes. A eommuriication regarding the termination of the surety bonds of Ids. L. F. Ranson and Doctor Roy Webb was referred to the Finance Committee and the City Attorney for recommendation A communication from ~~. C'. Y. Byrd regarding the side-: walk assessment against the property belonging to Iair. Thos. Finuean in Block 87 was read to the Council. It was moved, seconded and carried unanimously that the cor.~~muhication be re~Y; ferred to the Street Committee and City Attorney for recommen-`. dation. The following resolution was presented by Mr. Smith; BE IT RESOLVED THAT HEREAFTER THIS COUNCIL WILL REFUSE TO PAY.:. Mr: Jacobs moved that the resolution be adopted. The motion was seconded by A.4r. Smith and carried unanimously on roll call. It was moved by Mr. Smith and seconded by Iclr. Keen that"- the Muriieipal Judge be paid a salary of 50.00 per month. The motion was carried.
