09-19-28 Regularr ..) COUNCII, ROOM September 19th, 1928. The Council met in adjourned regular session with all members present except Mr. Smith who wsa out of the City. ~dayor Johnson stated that the objept of this meeting was to approve and ratify acts already done and lay plans for further relief to storm sufferers. The Mayor further reported that he had already visited the Red Cross headquarters in West Palm Beaph and had been advised that help would be forthcoming as soon as an organization could be perfected and the proper damage estimates made. It was moved, seconded and parried that a competent committee be named to make a preliminary survey and get up a list of materials eta. to power the immediate emergenpy. Mrs. Warfield was appointed chairman of the committee to aspertain the names of persons who were in distress that had not already been reported to headquarters. It was moved by Mrs. Warfield, seconded by Mr. Keen and un- animously carried that the Mayor be appointed a committee bo extend an offipial written appeal for aid. It was moved by Mr. daeobs, seconded by Mr. Keen and unani- mously~parried that Mr. Kiehols be relieved of all work oonnepted ~~ with the Sanitary Department and that he be made chairman of e commit-tee to repair and replace houses now off there foundations,. said work to be done at actual poet. It was moved by Mr. Keen, seconded by Mrs. Warfield and un- animously parried that the sum of $5,000.00 be appropriated for the purpose of extending relief to the hurricane sufferers. A unanimous vote of thanks wea extended Mr. Keen by the Coun- pil for the good work he was doing in cleaning up the Qity. Mr. Hicks reported an approximate damage of $500.00 to the golf club building. It was moved by Mr. Keen, seconded by Mr. Jacobs and unanimously parried that Mr. Hipks be instructed to set _ estimates for coat oP repairs of same and report to the Mayor. It was moved by Mrs. Warfield and seconded by Mr. dapobs that the Mayor and Police Department be authorized to ponscript all un- employed laborers needed for the clean up campaign. The motion was --~ parried unanimously. 27 Council Room - September 19th, 1928.
