W. D. Higginbotham, representing the Mercer Group, provided an overview
of the current status of the City Manager selection process. Mr.
Higginbotham said that the three semi-finalist candidates were listed
alphabetically, rather than in rank order. Mr. Higginbotham said he could
either respond to questions or provide detailed information about the three
short-listed candidates.

Mr. Higginbotham said he encouraged members of the City Commission
to contact him with questions about individual candidates. Mayor
Glickstein noted that Mr. Higginbotham's job was to synthesize
characteristics and qualities of the highest-ranked candidates. Mr.
Higginbotham responded to questions from the Mayor and City
Commissioners.
Commissioner Katz said he hoped that there was one candidate who was
agreeable to all five members of the City Commission. Mr. Higginbotham
said it was important for the members of the City Commission to speak to
the candidates in indvidual meetings. Mayor Glickstein said that there
were several reasons why the number of candidates was quite low,
including the upcoming holidays, the robust labor market and the upcoming
City Commission election in March. There was City Commission
consensus to move forward three candidates, removing Mr. Thompson's
name, and adding Mr. Niemeyer. Mr. Higginbotham said that he would
continue with background work on the three candidates. He noted that if
the City Commission were unable to agree on a City Manager, it would be
necessary to re-open the process. Mayor Glickstein urged the City
Commission to remain optimistic. Mr. Higginbotham concurred, stating
that the City Commission would very likely find a City Manager in the field
of the final three candidates. There being no further business, Mayor
Glickstein declared the workshop session closed at 5:42 p.m.
