102 NE 7th Street - FMSF I moved to Florida from Pennsylvania in 1973. Back then the homes were
quaint and loaded with character, built to withstand the devastating winds of
hurricanes in a style unique to Florida. Congress Avenue was really nothing
but a dirt road with vegetable stands. The pace was slow and easy and
people were friendly. There were very few families with children so the
classrooms were small and the kids got individual attention. When there
were special events, like parades or the fun and games and sand castle
building contests, all the kids got their picture in the paper. 30 years later
shows a different scenario. A lot of the older, beautiful homes in Delray
have been torn down to build huge, two and three story unattractive
mansions that obstruct our beautiful views and the ocean breezes that used to
keep us cool and have no contributing value at all. My little home in Delray
Beach was built in 1952. I bought it over 30 years ago. My children grew up
in this house. I have seen neighbors come and go; changes - some good
some not. And I can tell you that I am thrilled my home has the qualities
necessary to be considered a contributing structure in Historical Del-Ida
Park. I can't imagine why anyone would be anything other than thrilled to be
part of the history and preservation of the Delray we all know and love.
