November 8th, 1926.
The Council met in regular session, the Mayor presiding.
All Councilmen were present.
The minutes of the previous meetings were read and
approved.
The following building permits for construction in the
fire zone were granteds
Novelty Dress Shop in the Arcade Building
balcony to cost $500600
Abraham George - the building on Lot 3
Block 93 to cost $15,000.00
Dr. C. D. Tucker - repairs and new roof�c
in house in Block 77
It was moved by Mr. Barwick and seconded by Mr. Johnson
that the sanitary Inspector and the Chief of Police be in-
structed to notify all owners of property from West Second
Avenue to the Ganal in the old City limits to clean up their
property where it is necessary. The motion was carried on
roll call.
The City Clerk was instructed to buy six additional
trash cans to be placed on Atlantic Avenue.
It was moved that the matter of building a retaining
wall with curb and sidewalk for the fill on the West end of
the bridge be referred to the Street Committee with power to
act. The motion was seconded and carried on roll call.
Current bills having been audited by the Finance Com-
mittee were referred back to the Council and ordered paid.
It was moved, seconded and carried on roll call that
the Southern Bell Telephone Company be instructed to move
their telephone poles from the center of Southeast Third
Avenue in the block North of Atlantic Avenue.
The Mayor announced that the supervision of parks would
be placed in charge of the Street Committee.

It was regularly moved, seconded and carried on roll
call that Sir. Johnson be appointed as a committee from the
Council to work with similiar committees from other organi-
zations in regard to erecting ornamental gates at the en-
trances to the City.
The Chief of Police was ordered to remove the extension
in front of the Arcade Sandwich Shop which is on City property
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried on roll
call that the City Attorney be instructed to take up the
legal work for issuing improvement bonds for the Swinton
Avenue paving.
The Clerk was instructed to ask for bids for legal
advertising for the current year.
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried on roll
call that Plat No. 1 of Homewood Subdivision be approved.
The Mayor announced the appointment of Sir. L. W. Cook
as fire Chief.
