9 m, Council Chamber. June 26y 1922, a ,' The Council met in regular session, the Mayor presiding. Councilmen present were Mr. Jacobs, Mr. $een, Mr. Ranson, Mr. Scott, and Mr. Sundy. The minutes of previous meetings were read and approved as read. Mr. A. L. Miller, representing the American 0 p. _Q ~~:z ~; ,0 ~- ~" .. 0 ~f .- Legion, appeared before the Council with a request that the Legion be permitted to have the use of Atlantic Avenue from Swinton Avenue to Lhe Canal as a closed thoroughfare between the hours of 1:30 and 2;30 p.m. on July 4, for the purpose of having auto% mobile and bicycle races thereon. The request was (granted by unanimous vote on condition that the nec g"~~^~ ~~ (essary precautions be taken to protect the safety of "~. persons and property.while the Avenue is used for such purposes. ,~~ On motion of Mr. $een the Mayor was authorized -,;~" to inenr the necessary expense to be paid from th'e ~ ~A ~~na general fund to have a representative float of the ~`? A motion of Mr. Ranson that the Clerk place an order witti~,th a American Cast I ron Pipe Company of _.; Birminghei~; Alabama, for Four thousand feet.--of 4" Prepared Joint Pipe, designed for 200' Head, 86 pounds '~ working pressuil~e, in 16' lengths, complete with lead and jute - 69 ~ per foot, F.O.B. Baker be employed as inspector oP the street paving now under-way at a salary of 100 per month commencing July 1, 1922, was on roll call adopted. Those voting in the affirmative were Mr, Keen, Mr. Ranson, Mr. Scott, and Mr, Sundy. Mr. Jacoba voted in the negative. A motion by Mr, Keen, seconded by Mr, Jacobs, that the superintendent and engineer of the Water and' . ~," ,,,, Light plant be authorized to employ @-m.M.Towles as linesman at~4~100 per month commencing July 1, 1922, was adopted on call of the roll by unanimous vote, ,r ~ By unanimous .vote the resolution adopted May 22,u 19?,2 relating to sidewalk on the west side of Boynton street was amended by striking out the words "t© At- ~~, `; lantie avenueand inserting the words "t© the a,®nth `y'~~ line of the pavement in front of the garage".
