Resolution No. 163-19 Hurricane DorianAttachments:
The Emergency City Commission/Policy Group Meeting was called to
order at 9:38 a.m. in the City Manager's Office Conference Room.
The following were in attendance:
Mr. Neal de Jesus, Interim City Manager (ICM)
Mayor Shelly Petrolia
Deputy Vice Mayor Bill Bathurst
Vice Mayor Shirley Ervin Johnson
Ms. Lynn Gelin, City Attorney
Ms. Dani Mochella, Public Information Officer
Ms. Katerri Johnson, City Clerk
Ms. Gelin read the title of the Resolution 163-19 into the record declaring
the state of Emergency for Hurricane Dorian.
ICM Neal de Jesus gave a briefing on the status of Hurricane Dorian at its
current state and what to expect.
He informed the Commission that the City will push out messages to the
Community to keep them informed of what the City is doing in preparation
for the impending hurricane. Questions were asked about Code Red and
making sure the public knew how to sign up. He explained that the front
page of the City's website had information on it for that purpose. He further
explained that the generators were fueled and checked to power the lift
stations. He announced the locations that tarps and sandbags were
designated to be distributed to all Delray residents should they want or
need them.
ICM de Jesus explained that all staff would be provided an employee call in
number for updates - but at the present time it had not yet been activated.
Further discussion ensued about the activation of the EOC and the
possible closing of City Hall. Nothing was determined at the time since it
was still too early yet. His final comments were that we are prepared to
deal with everything we are capable of dealing with.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bathurst to approve Resolution
163-19 declaring the state of emergency for Hurricane Dorian. It was
seconded by Vice Mayor Johnson. The motion carried 3-0.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 10:28
a.m.
