SP.1.CONSIDERATION OF REQUEST FOR POSTPONEMENT OF PUBLIC
HEARING SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2020
Purpose: Discussion concerning request for postponement submitted
by Thomas Ali, Attorney for George Gretsas.
Sponsors:City Attorney Department
Email from Attorney Thomas AliAttachments:
Others present were:
Jennifer Alvarez, Interim City Manager
Lynn Gelin, City Attorney
Ms. Gelin advised the City Commission that she received notification from
Mr. Gretsas' Attorneys, Mr. Thomas J. Ali, Esquire and Stuart N. Kaplan, P.A.
and it is her understanding that they are now representing Mr. Gretsas with
his termination proceedings. She further explained that the public hearing
was scheduled for October 23, 2020 at 10 A.M., but due to the attorneys
being recently retained as well as other outstanding issues, they have
requested a postponement.
After checking with outside counsel and all parties involved, Friday,
November 20, 2020 at 10 A.M. was determined to be the best date to
reconvene.
Ms. Gelin expressed her positioning to Mr. Ali that Mr. Gretsas' contract
allows for 120 days from the issuance of notice of termination to the public
hearing after which no further payments of salary or benefits will be
required. She stated that the attorneys have agreed that after October 23,

2020 which was the date of the public hearing that the City would not be
responsible for making any further payments. Thus the suspension will go
from suspended with pay to suspended without pay.
Further discussion ensued.
Commissioner Frankel made a motion to postpone the October 23, 2020
hearing and reschedule to the proposed date of Friday, November 20,
2020 at 10 A.M. and change Mr. Gretsas' status to unpaid suspension of
salary and benefits. The vote was taken and carried 5-0.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 3:05
