1993•2001•2017 WHEREAS, the bicycle is an economical, healthy, convenient, and environmentally sound form of transportation and an excellent tool for recreation and enjoyment of Delray Beach's scenic beauty by residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, throughout the month of March 2021, the residents of Delray Beach, Florida and its visitors will experience the joys of bicycling through virtual educational programs and informational events, or by simply getting out and going for a ride; and WHEREAS, creating a bicycling-friendly community has been shown to improve community health, wellbeing, and quality of life, growing the economy of Cities and especially in Florida, attracting tourism dollars, improving traffic safety, supporting student learning outcomes, and reducing pollution, congestion, and wear and tear on our streets and roads; and WHEREAS, local bicycle groups, the League of ,\merican Bicyclists, city departments, hospitals, companies, and civic groups will be promoting bicycling during the month of March 2020; and WHEREAS, these groups are also promoting greater public awareness of bicycle operation and safety education to reduce crashes resulting in injuries and deaths, and improving health and safety for everyone on the road. NOW, THEREFORE, I, SHELLY PETROLIA, Mayor of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, on behalf of the City Commission do hereby proclaim the month of March 2021 as: FLORIDA BICYCLE MONTH in the City Delray Beach and urge citizens, businesses and organizations to join me in this special observance.
