Whereas,during National Hispanic Heritage Month,we recognize the
contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in our
community and celebrate their heritage and culture;and
Whereas,the Hispanic Heritage Month roots go back to 1968,the anniversary of
independence of five Latin American countries:Costa Rica,El Salvador,Guatemala,
Honduras and Nicaragua;and
Whereas,to honor the achievements of Hispanics in America,Congress by
Public Law 100-402,as amended,has authorized the issuance of a proclamation
annually designating September 15 through October 15 as:
National Hispanic Heritage Month
Now,Therefore, I,SHELLY PETROLIA,Mayor of the City of Delray Beach,do
hereby join in the observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month and encourage all
others to embrace the diversity and celebrate Hispanics in the community.
