03-20-78SpMtg 303 MARCH 20, 1978 A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, was held in the Council Chambers at 7:05 P.M. Monday, March 20, 1978, with Mayor James H. Scheifley presiding, City Manager J. Eldon Mariott, Assistant City Attorney Clifford Shandy, and Council members Robert D. Chapin, Aaron I. Sanson, IV., and Leon M. Weekes, present. Council member David E. Randolph was absent. Mayor Scheifley called the meeting to order and announced that same had been called for the purpose of considering passage of Resolution No. 27-78 opposing installation of billboard sign on South Federal Highway. Frank Steele, Southern Federal Savings and Loan Association of Broward County, presented Council with a copy of a letter that was sent to the sign company who placed a sign on South Federal Highway. In this letter they have advised the sign, company that they are terminating the lease immediately and to have all signs and other structures removed within 30 days after receiving notice of this termination. At this point, he Stated he feels that it would not be necessary for the resolution to be passed. Mayor Scheifley read the letter dated March 20th from Southern Federal Savings and Loan Association of Broward Count~ which is as follows: "March 20, 1978 Sign Craft 1890 Church Street West Palm Beach, Florida 33401 Re: Lease dated November 10, 1977 Gentlemen~ We hereby wish to notify you that Southern Federal is exercising its right to terminate the aforesaid lease immediately and to have all signs and other structures removed within 30 days after receiving notice of this termination. We are returning your check dated March 7, 1978, payable to the order of Southern Federal Savings & Loan of Broward County, in the amount of $500. Sincerely yours, Hugh H. Bowers, Jr. Vice President, Marketing HHB: jr: jk Eric lo sure " Mr. Chapin thanked Mr. Steele for his cooperation in this matter, and moved that Council accept the copy of the letter submitted by Mr. Steele, seconded by Mr. Weekes. The motion passed unanimously. Mayor Scheifley noted on last Thursday he talked to Mr. Liberti, County Planning & Zoning Board Chairman, and he was assured by Mr. Liberti that this will not happen again and whenever the county receives such a request, they will call the city to communicate. This will only apply until July 1st as Mr. Liberti is resigning from the Planning & Zoning Board and is running for the legislature. Mr. Chapin moved, at 7:10'P.M., for the adjournment of the meeting, seconded by Mr. Sanson. The motion passed unanimously.
