11-09-78SpMtg NOVEMBER 9, 1978 A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, was held in the Council Chambers at 4:05 P.M., Thursday, November 9, 1978, with Mayor Leon M. Weekes presiding, City Manager J. Eldon Mariott, Assistant City Attorney Clifford Shandy, and Council members Aaron I. Sanson, IV and James H. Scheifley, present. Council members Charlotte G. Durante and Robert D. Chapin were absent. Mayor Weekes called the meeting to order and announced that same had been called for the purpose of canvassing and approving the returns of the Referendum Election held on Tuesday, November 7, 1978. The City Clerk reported the results of the Referendum Election held on Tuesday, November 7, 1978 as follows: DELRAY BEACH CITY CHARTER AMENDMENT - ELECTIONS FOR 6,505 AGAINST - 2,072 DELRAY BEACH CITY CHARTER AMENDMENT - CIVIL SERVICE FOR 5,225 AGAINST - 3,471 Mr. Scheifley moved that the results of the voting of the Referendum Election held November 7, 1978, having been certified as provided in Section 5.05 of the Charter and transmitted to the Council at this meeting, and the Council having canvassed the returns and found the votes for the amendment relating to "Elections" to be For - 6,505; Against - 2,072: and the amendment relating to the "Civil Service Act" to be For - 5,225; Against - 3,471. From the foregoing results it is declared that Ordinance No. 68-78 (Elections) and Ordinance No. 66-78 (Civil Service) are hereby declared to be in full force and effect, seconded by Mr. Sanson. The motion passed unanimously. Mayor Weekes declared the meeting adjourned at 4:08 P.M. CITY CLERK APPROVED: LEON M.
