After looking 'over the plans of the proposed development .of-this property, Mr. Wilson moved to grant the request. The motion was sec- onded' by Mr. Jurney and carried Unanimously. Following a question by Mrs. Dorothea Montgomery concerning water pressure in the area with the construction of the various buildings, City Manager Gatch~l reported that last stumner the City completed a looping of the wate~ system for the entire beach area south of Atlantic Avenue and there is ample water pressure in that area. Mrs. 'Montgomery said she had 'asked last year that consideration be given to construction of a sidewalk on Venetian Drive, and now with more building there would be much more foot traffic in that area. The City Manager reported that after &~ survey had been completed .and it had been recommended that a sidewalk be constructed, the winter .season had started, and since it is the desire to hold such construction to a minimum' during the tourist season, the construction is planned in the work schedule for this sur~ner. 10.a. Rev. Mr. Willie SLmmofae of the Progressive committee for Civic Action, said that the committee did recommend, along with the Council, at the last meeting, that the teen town center location be used for a 'pony league field rather than an adult field. He then read the following statement= "During the past C~ty elections there were many campaign speeches made. Of the many that were given, one .noble promise stood out. On a number of occasions, I heard our Councilman express the need for Day Care Centers in DelraY,. and also heard' promises to WOrk for their establishment. The Progressive Committee for 'Civic Action has made some surveys slid' have found that there is a great and' crying need for Day Care or Nursery Centers in the western sector of our City. Being a Counselor. at Carver High School, I know of many students who .stay home during the day to care for small children while the parents work. These children need robe in school. This is the reason for many of our girls dropping out of school, or who have to drop out. I dontt believe that Day Care will solve, all of these problems, but I am sure it will alleviate some of the conditions. Gentlemen, whereas we don'!'t want to add to the prob- lems already being considered by the Council, we would like 'to know 'What are you doing about day Care centers?'," Mayor Saunders and Councilman Youngblood said they had attended meetings concerning Day Care Centers, held by the Ministerial AsSocia- tion, and Mr. Youngblood reported on some of the developments at ~hose meetings. Following general discUssion about lack of work and summer jobs in a town of this size and type, Mayor Satunders reported that he had attended a Chamber of co~merce meeting at Boca Raton today, and it was announced that they are again this year running their job project, and that the businessmen in town who can' use people, out of school, make such request known to' the Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber would act as a clearing house to put the boys and girls to work as they apply for the jobs. Mayor Saunders asked that the City Manager .contact the local Chamber of Commerce to see if they would be willing to act as a Clear- ing house for sumuer .jobs. 10.b.
