Res 64-90 Void VOID RESOLUTION NO. 64-90 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.. WHEREAS, the American Flag represents the freedom afforded to the citizens of the United States of America as guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States and the laws of the fifty states and their cities and towns; and, WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court has recently ruled that the United States Constitution, as it currently exists, does not serve to protect the American Flag from desecration and abuse; and, WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Delray Beach deems it necessary, appropriate and in the public interest to support an amendment to the United States Constitution to protect the American Flag from actions such as those which gave rise to the United States Supreme Court decision, and to advise its elected officials in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives of their support for such an amendment, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Delray Beach hereby endorses and supports the submission to the State Legislature, for consideration of the voters of the State of Florida and the voters of the United States of America, an amendment to the United States Constitution to protect the Flag of the United States of America from desecration and abuse. Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide a copy of this resolution to the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Chairman of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, the United States Senators for the State of Florida, and the Representative for this congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED in regular session on this the 26th day of June, 1990. MAYOR ATTEST: City Clerk
