Res 100-89 RESOLUTION NO. 100-89 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, NAMING THE NATURE PRESERVE/PARK LAND KNOWN AS THE "SCRUB PARCEL" AS THE "LEON M. WEEKES ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVE" IN RECOGNITION OF HIS PAST AND CONTINUING DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH AND ITS CITIZENS. WHEREAS, on September 27, 1988, the City of Delray Beach entered into an agreement with Palm Beach County to purchase an 11.6 acre parcel of vacant land located west of and along the F.E.C. Railroad tracks at the eastern terminus of Curlew Road, also known as the "Scrub Parcel"; and, WHEREAS, this agreement provided for the maintenance and development of the nature preserve/park which conserves a vital natural resource; and, WHEREAS, the City Commission is desirous that the efforts and contributions made by Leon M. Weekes be recognized, acclaimed and permanently recorded; and, WHEREAS, Leon M. Weekes has served and continues to serve the City of Delray Beach in many capacities, to-wit: ** City Commissioner from 1970 - 1978 ** Mayor, City of Delray Beach, 1978 - 1982 ** Past Director and Executive Committee, Florida League of Cities ** Past Director and President of the Palm Beach County Municipal League ** Director, United Way of South Palm Beach County ** Director, Drug Abuse Foundation of Palm Beach County ** Past President and Director, Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce ** Director, Equity Bank of Delray Beach ** Member, Board of Governors, Delray Community Hospital ** Past Member, Community Redevelopment Agency ** Member, City Manager Selection Committee ** Executive Board, Gulfstream Council Boy Scouts of America ** and many other civic accomplishments and community activities, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, in recognition of his past and continuing dedicated service, does hereby name the "Scrub Parcel" as the "LEON M. WEEKES ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVE", and said tract shall hereafter be known as same. PASSED AND ADOPTED in regular session on this the 12th day of December, 1989. MAYOR ATTEST: Ass t.
