A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO APPROVE
CITY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A WEEKEND PARKING RESTRICTION
FOR A PORTION OF US-1 LYING WITHIN THE CITY.
WHEREAS, the City Manager of the City of Delray Beach, Florida,
has requested the District Traffic Operations Engineer of the Department
of Transportation of the State of Florida to review proposed parking
restrictions by the City for a portion of a roadway known as US-l, which
portion lies within the City limits; and,
WHEREAS, the District Traffic Operations Engineer has agreed
to review parking restrictions for the roadway, subject to the receipt
of a formal request from the City which will then be submitted to the
Department for its written approval; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach requests approval by the
State Department of Transportation for a weekend parking restriction
on a portion of US-1 to extend north from North East 14th Street to
Gulfstream Boulevard; and,
WHEREAS, in support of the request, the City Commission has
made the following findings: that the restriction will prove beneficial
in its reduction of traffic congestion during Flea Market activities;
that such parking is properly incidental to normal weekday business
activities, however, it is not incidental to normal weekend business
activities; and the City of Delray Beach hereby commits to the enforce-
ment of this restricted parking along the above described portion of
US-l,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Delray
Beach, Florida, formally requests the Department of Transportation of
the State of Florida to provide the City written approval of the City's
request for a weekend parking restriction for a portion of US-l, to
extend north from North East 14th Street to Gulfstream Boulevard, such
portion of the roadway lying within the City Limits, such restriction
to be effective Saturday and Sunday each week.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to furnish
a certified copy of this Resolution to the District Traffic Operations
Engineer of the Department of Transportation of the State of Florida.
PASSED AND ADOPTED in special session on this the 2nd day of
June, 1987.
