A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY
BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING FUNDING FOR THE FISCAL YEAR
1989/1990 BEACH NOURISHMENT, COASTAL ENGINEERING
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORINGS OF THE BEACH AND REEF,
REVEGETATION OF THE DUNE, AND PROTECTIVE WALk"WAYS FOR
ACCESS THROUGH THE DUNE FOR THE PROPOSED 1990 BEACH
RENOURISHMENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach, Florida is committed to a
50-year program of Coastal Restoration and Preservation; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Florida Statute 161.091 Provides for
reimbursement of certain costs to local sponsors of Beach Nourishment
Projects; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach has a successful, ongoing
beach nourishment and maintenance program; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach wants to continue their beach
program; and,
WHEREAS, the continuation of the beach program requires the
following work to be carried out in FY 1989/90:
a) Beach Nourishment - Approximately 800,000 cubic yards of
sand will be needed along the 2.7 miles of public beach to
maintain the designed recreational benefits and storm
protection.
b) Engineering - Finalize design, update cost, finalized data
required for permit applications, beach profile surveys,
and engineering observation during construction.
c) Environmental Monitoring - Set up monitoring required by
the various permits.
d) Dune Revegetation to increase fore-dune accretion
immediately after the nourishment.
e) Protective Walkway through the d~ne; and,
WHEREAS, The Department of Natural Resources is authorized by
Chapter 161 to assist in funding of the above mentioned types of
projects,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City of Delray Beach, Florida hereby
requests $1,898,550.00 in funding assistance from the Department of
Natural Resources for FY 1989/90.
