Res 88-85 RESOLUTION NO. 88-85 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA EXPRESSING THE CITY'S OPPOSITION TO THE REQUESTED EXPANSION OF A PROJECT KNOWN AS DELRAY SQUARE AND REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS IMMEDIATELY MOVE FORWARD ON THE FOUR-LANE WIDENING OF MILITARY TRAIL NORTH OF ATLANTIC AVENUE TO LAKE IDA ROAD; PROVIDING FOR FURNISHING COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION. WHEREAS, the County has approved a 316,000 square foot shopping center project known as Delray Square located at the northeast corner of Military Trail and West Atlantic Avenue; and, WHEREAS, 134,509 square feet of that project have been constructed as the first phase of the shopping development; and, WHEREAS, the developer is now seeking an expansion of the overall project of 15,800 square feet; and, WHEREAS, the project is within the City's designated reserve annexation area; and, WHEREAS, the City is extremely concerned that a further increase in the proposed project would adversely impact the quality of life experienced by City and County residents living nearby, as well as those who use the Atlantic Avenue/Military Trail intersection; and, WHEREAS, the City Council believes that such an expansion of Delray Square is incompatible with the area, especially with regard to traffic flow, at the present time and thus such an expansion should not be approved by the County; and, WHEREAS, the City Council desires that the County immediately commit to the four-lane widening of Military Trail north of Atlantic Avenue to Lake Ida Road to accommodate the increased traffic. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, does hereby express its opposition to the requested expansion to the Delray Square develop- ment (now set forth hearing before the County on October 30, 1985); and does further urge the Board of County Commissioners to immediately move forward on the four-lane widening of Military Trail north from Atlantic Avenue to Lake Ida Road. Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to furnish copies of this resolution to the Board of County Commissioners, the County's Planning Director, and any other person requesting same.
