RESOLUTION NO. 97-85
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE METROPOLITAN
PLANNING ORGANIZATION TO SUPPORT, AND THE PALM BEACH
COUNTY TO UNDERTAKE THE WIDENING OF LAKE IDA ROAD
FROM CONGRESS AVENUE TO MILITARY TRAIL AT THE
EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE, AND REQUESTING THAT THE ROAD
BE DESIGNED IN A MANNER WHICH WILL HAVE THE LEAST
IMPACT ON ADJACENT RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY.
WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has in effect a five year schedule
of road improvements to be constructed with back tax revenues; and,
WHEREAS, the widening of Lake Ida Road from Congress Avenue to
Military Trail was eliminated from that schedule primarily because the
widening of Congress Avenue was considered to be a more urgent priority,
but also because adjacent residential property owners were opposed to
the road widening; and,
WHEREAS, traffic volume along that section of Lake Ida Road
has increased at unexpected rates so that Lake Ida Road now operates at
level of service F; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed construction of Lake Ida Road west from
Military Trail will exacerbate traffic conditions along Lake Ida Road
from Congress Avenue to Military Trail; and,
WHEREAS, the development of commercial property along both
Military Trail and Congress Avenue close to the intersection of Lake Ida
Road will continue to place additional traffic along that section of
Lake Ida Road; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City Delray Beach be sympa-
thetic to the concerns of residents along Lake Ida Road whose properties
will be impacted by the widening of the road,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
~_~ The City Council of the City of Delray Beach
requests the Metropolitan Planning Organization to support and Palm
Beach County to undertake as soon as possible the widening of Lake Ida
Road to four lanes utilizing whatever engineering design will impose the
least impact on.adjacent residential properties.
~_~ That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to and
directed to furnish copies of this Resolution to the Board of County
Commissioner of Palm Beach County, and the Metropolitan Planning Organ-
ization, and to all other appropriate public officials.
