A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING LEGISLATION
RELATING TO TRAFFIC INFRACTION DETECTION
DEVICES AT INTERSECTIONS; DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA, THE
SPEAKER OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES, TO EACH MEMBER OF THE PALM
BEACH COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION, TO THE
MEMBERS OF THE PALM BEACH COUNTY BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS, TO THE MAYORS OF PALM BEACH
COUNTY, TO THE PALM BEACH LEAGUE OF CITIES AND
TO THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES; PROVIDING FOR A
REPEALER CLAUSE; AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Tmnsportation's Federal Highway
Administration has estimated that the running of red lights results in significant costs to Florida
citizens; and
WHEREAS, in a typical year in Florida over 9,000 crashes at intersections result in nearly
14,000 injuries and over 100 fatalities; and
WHERE~S, although automobile crashes at intersections may be caused by many variables,
the running of red lights is entirely within the control of drivers; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Delray Beach finds it to be in the best
interests of the health, safety, and welfare of citizens of the City of Delray Beach to support
legislation that would authorize the installation and utilization of traffic infraction detection devices
at intersections.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Delray Beach hereby supports legislation
that would authorize the installation and utilization of traffic infraction detection devices at
intersections throughout the State of Florida.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of this resolution to the
Governor of the State of Florida, the president of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida
House of Representatives, to each member of Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, the Palm
Beach County Board of Commissioners, the Mayors of each municipality in Palm Beach County, to
the Palm Beach League of Cities, and to the Florida League of Cities.
Section 3~. If any section, subsection, clause or provision of this resolution is held invalid,
the remainder shall not be affected by such invalidity.
Section 4.. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith shall be and hereby are
repealed.
Section 5. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
