Res 101-83 RESOLUTION NO. 101-83
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH,
FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE TOWN OF OCEAN RIDGE IN ITS EFFORTS AT
BEACH RESTORATION; PROVIDING FOR FURNISHING OF COPIES OF THIS
RESOLUTION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida is aware of the concerted
efforts of the Town Commission of the Town of Ocean Ridge toward beach restoration; and,
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council of the City of Delray Beach that
the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation has tentatively denied a permit to Palm Beach
County to restore the beaches through offshore dredging but has tentatively granted a permit for an
alternative method involving "improvements" to mechanical sand transfer operations at the South Lake
Worth Inlet; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach has in the past completed a successful, beneficial and
environmentally clean beach restoration project using the offshore dredging method; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach supports offshore dredging as the most effective
method of beach restoration to reduce the potential for erosion and flooding of upland properties and to
provide a recreation beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY
BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, hereby supports the
Town of Ocean Ridge in its efforts at beach restoration and supports said Town in its activities relating
to same.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to furnish a copy of this
Resolution to the Palm Beach County Commission, the Florida Department of Environmental Regula-
tion, members of the local legislative delegation and any other entity requesting same.
