A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA,
EXPRESSING ITS APPROVAL OF AND SUPPORT FOR A STATE-
WIDE TASK FORCE ON VOLUNTARISM AND URGING THE STATE
OF FLORIDA TO ESTABLISH A FLORIDA TASK FORCE ON PRI-
VATE SECTOR INITIATIVES FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING
THE NATIONAL TASK FORCE IN COORDINATION OF VOLUNTEER
SERVICES; PROVIDING FOR FURNISHING COPIES OF THIS RESO-
LUTION.
WHEREAS, the spirit of voluntarism is one of the philosophies upon which this nation was
founded; and
WHEREAS, today one of every five Americans is making a gift of time and talent to
some kind of volunteer service which is designated to help others or to work for a cause; and
WHEREAS, our communities, our state, and our nation will benefit as more and more
people bestow the priceless gift that comes only when people give of themselves; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature has deemed it necessary to provide for and encourage
state agencies to make maximum use of volunteer services by passage of certain legislation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach in anticipating "New Federalism", believes there is
a need for an aggressive volunteer force to mitigate the potential costs; and
WHEREAS, in order to establish an improved atmosphere for voluntarism, a state-wide
task force needs to be established as soon as possible, which would coordinate the efforts of the
private and public sectors and set the City of Delray Beach back on the road to community solutions
to community problems; and
WHEREAS, prompt establishment of the Florida Task Force on Private Sector Initiatives
will support the National Task Force in coordination of this vital effort.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA,
AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. That the City of Delray Beach, Florida, does hereby express its approval of
and support for a state-wide task force on voluntarism and hereby urges the State of Florida to
establish a Florida Task Force on Private Sector Initiatives for the purpose of supporting the
National Task Force in coordination of volunteer services.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to furnish copies of this
Resolution to Governor Bob Graham; Kay Mansolill, Director, Volunteer Services, Palm Beach
County; Helen Bartholomew, Director, Volunteer Services, Southeastern Palm Beach County
Hospital District; and all other appropriate public officials and agencies.
