RESOLUTION NO. 4 9- 8 2
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THAT THE SEABOARD
COASTLINE RAILROAD COMPANY TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO
REPAIR, CORRECT, AND IMPROVE THEIR RAIL CROSSINGS
THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, EMPHASIZING
THOSE AT ATLANTIC AVENUE AND AT S.%W. 10TH STREET IN THE
CITY OF DELRAY BEACH; PROVIDING FOR FURNISHING COPIES
OF THIS RESOLUTION.
%WHEREAS, the rail lines of the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company run north and
south through the City of De[ray Beach, Florida, and thus cross.over the City's heavily trafficked
east-west public roadways; and,
%WHEREAS, the rapid growth of the southeast coast area of Florida, and specifically the
Delray Beach area, has resulted in increased traffic over these railway crossings; and,
%WHEREAS, the Engineering Department of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, has
determined that all of the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company crossings within the City of Delray
Beach require improvement and repairs of a lasting nature; and,
%WHEREAS, two specific crossings, being the Seaboard Coastline Railroad crossings at
Atlantic Avenue and S.%W. 10th Street in the City of Delray Beach, are in a deplorable and actually
hazardous condition; and,
%WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, wishes to formally
notify the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company of these problems and conditions, and to request
that they take immediate action to correct, repair and improve their railroad crossings within the
City.
NO%W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLO%WS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida, does hereby
request that the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company take immediate action to repair, correct and
improve all their railroad crossings throughout the City of Delray Beach, with special emphasis on
those crossings located at Atlantic Avenue and 5.%!/. 10th Street in the' City of Delray Beach, Florida.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to furnish certified
copies of this Resolution to the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company, the State of Florida,
Department of Transportation, and to all other appropriate public officials and agencies.
