A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY
BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE ROOTS CULTURAL FESTIVAL,
INC., IN THEIR EFFORTS TO SPONSOR THE FOURTH ANNUAL
'"ROOTS CULTURAL FESTIVAL" IN THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH,
FLORIDA.
°W~RREAS, the Roots Cultural Festival, Inc., is sponsoring the
fourth annual "Roots Cultural Festival" on July 25 through August 9, 1981,
in the City of Delray Beach; and,
W~RREAS, this festival is an attempt to present to the community,
state and nation a view of the rich cultural heritage of the people of
African ancestry in our City; and,
WW~REAS, tlmis idea was conceived by Jefferson Manor Homes Associ-
ation in an attempt to bring people together to develop pride, respect and
appreciation for their community as well as their particular heritage
which they bring to the City; and,
WHEREAS, the festival will provide an opportunity for exciting
experiences for local people and tourists reminiscent of the Bahamas, the
West Indies, Haiti and other countries with African Ancestry and will also
provide a wholesome outlet for involving the young people in the community
in constructive activities; and,
WHEREAS, last year's festival received a tremendous response from
residents all over South Florida, the Bahamas and the West Indies; and,
WHEREAS, the activities of the festival are to promote academic
excellence among our youth, an old fashioned spelling bee, oratorical
contest, promote physical fitnesss, tennis tournament, swim meet, promote
cultural enrichment and appreciati6n, displays, presentations will
feature .graphic arts, creative dance, creative drama for children and
adults, poetry, fashion show and music; and,
WHEREAS, the highlight of the festival will be a "Heritage Parade'
and the All Day Festival at Pompey Park,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach
hereby supports the Roots Cultural Festival, Inc.', in their efforts to
sponsor the fourth annual "Roots Cultural Festival" in the City of Delray
Beach.
PASSED AND ADOPTED in special session on this the 7th day of
July, 1981.
