Res 60-81 RESOLUTION NO. 60-81 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO ADOPT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING A ONE-HALF PERCENT LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX. WHEREAS, it has become increasingly evident that the ad valorem property tax will not be adequate in the future to provide the revenues required by local governments for their services to the citizens of the state; and, WHEREAS, the ever increasing ad valorem property taxes are causing a severe burden upon many classes of property owners; and, WHEREAS, the continuing failure of the legislature to provide alternative means of financing local government services will require substantial increases in the ad valorem property taxes to maintain current levels of services; and, WHEREAS, the legislature has found it necessary to impose several limitations on the revenue raising ability of local governments which creates a continuing atmosphere of impending crisis in the deli- very of local government services, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Governor and legislature of the State of Florida are' hereby urged to adopt legislation authorizing a one-half percent local option sales tax. Section 2. That the revenues from the sales tax be authorized for general fund purposes such as law enforcement, utility services, transportation and to relieve the pressures on ad valorem property taxes. Section 3. That such sales tax revenues be distributed in a fair and equitable manner between City and County Governments based on County-wide collections. Section 4. That copies of this resolution be sent to the Governor of the State of Florida, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, President of the Florida Senate and the Executive Director of the Florida League of Cities.
