Res 87-81 RESOLUTION NO. 87-81 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, TO EXPRESS THE CITY'S SUPPORT OF THE EMPLOYMENT OF WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ASSURING IMPROVED WATER QUALITY AND WATER QUANTITY IN SOUTH FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the water supply of Delray Beach and all of South Florida is dependent upon the water system stretching from the Kissimmee River to the Everglades, including Lake Okeechobee; and WHEREAS, the proper management of our water resources is important to the ecology of South Florida for future water quantity and improved water quality; and WHEREAS, it is important that the City of Delray Beach, and each government entity, and citizen express their concern about the need for proper implementation of a water management plan to protect our water resources, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach hereby expresses concern about the management and utilization of the water resources serving South Florida. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach supports the employment of water resource management techniques in South Florida for the purpose of preserving and protecting: 1. Potable water supplies 2. Organic soils 3. Freshwater fisheries Marine fisheries Surface water quality for fish and wildlife 6. Wetlands 7. Everglades National Park. Section 3. That the City Clerk shall upon the adoption of this resolution, cause copies to be mailed to the Governor and the Cabinet, the Palm Beach County legislative delegation, the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Regulation, the Executive Director of the Department of Natural Resources, the Executive Director of the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission, the Executive Director of the South Florida Water Management District, the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Royal Palm Audubon Society, and Friends of the Evergtades.
