Res 52-80 RESOLUTION NO. 52-80 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION BY THE HOSPICE BOCA RATON, INC. TO THE PALM BEACH COUNTY HEALTH PLANNING COUNCIL FOR A CERTIFICATE OF NEED TO ALLOW THEM TO OPER- ATE A NOT FOR PROFIT HOSPICE TO SERVE SOUTH PALM BEACH COUNTY AREA. WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach recognizes a responsibility to the community to support public health and welfare efforts, in general, and in particular e~forts regarding its senior citizens who located here in retirement; and, WHEREAS, the concept of hospice service to the terminally ill is recognized as a unique community service which the City and the area requires; and,- ~EREAS, the Hospice Boca Raton incorporated in May 1979 has established itself in the community, as a medically supervised system with physician-referred patients and has provided hospice care to over 60 patients in the period January 1980 to June 1980; and, WHEREAS, the Hospice Boca Raton is a member of the National Hospice Organization, and the Florida State Hospice Organization; and, WHEREAS, the Hospice Boca Raton is required to operate under the guidelines of the Hospice Law of the State of Florida; and, WHEREAS, the Hospice Law of the State of Florida requires that in order to operate as a State approved hospice organization, a certificate of need must be obtained from the local Health Planning Council, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach hereby supports the application by the Hospice Boca Raton, Inc. to the Palm Beach County Health Planning Council for a certificate of need to permit the operation by them of a not for profit hospice to serve the people of the South Palm Beach County area. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach encourages all of its citizens - business, institutional and private - to support the permanent establishment of the Hospice Boca Raton, Inc. Section 3. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach hereby requests that the Palm Beach County Health Planning Council consider the outstanding record of service rendered by the Hospice Boca Raton, Inc. in its first year, and approve its application for a certificate of need to serve the South Palm Beach County area.
