A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING ADDITIONAL
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM PALM BEACH COUNTY FOR
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE PUBLIC BEACH;
PROVIDING AUTHORIZATION FOR THE CITY CLERK TO
PROVIDE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO EACH MEMBER
OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND ALL
OTHER APPROPRIATE PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND AGENCIES.
W?~REAS, the cost of operating and maintenance of the public
beach in Delray Beach has increased each year; and,
~v_-~.~REAS, operation and maintenance of the public beach now sur-
passes $300,000 per year; and,
W-~EAS, the City Council of the City of Delray Beach gratefully
recognizes the annual financial assistance provided by Palm Beach County
for replenishing sand on the public beach and thanks the County for its
continued assistance in that regard; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to make Palm Beach County aware
that the taxpayers of the City of Delray Beach bear the entire cost of
such operation and maintenance, despite the fact that recent surveys
indicate that more than one-haif of the use of the public beach is by
Palm Beach County residents residing outside the municipal limits of
the City of Delray Beach; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Delray Beach, Florida,
on behalf of the taxpayers in the City of Delray Beach wishes to re-
quest additional financial assistance from Palm Beach County in their
upcoming budget to defray some of this day to day maintenance cost,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach,
Florida, on behalf of the taxpayers in the City of Delray Beach, hereby
requests that Palm Beach County provide for additional financial assist-
ar~ze to the City of Delray Beach in the County's upcoming budget to
defray some of the costs of operation and maintenance of the public beach
in the City of Delray Beach, Florida.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed
to provide a copy of this resolution to each member of the Board of
County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, Florida, and to all other
appropriate public officials and agencies.
