A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, COMMENDING THE SAINT PATRICK'S
DAY COMMITTEE, AND MAURICE POWER FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN
ORGANIZING AND CONDUCTING THE SAINT PATRICK'S DAY
CELEBRATION IN DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, approximately ten years ago Maurice Power, resident of
i!the City of Delray Beach, Florida, in order to celebrate Saint Patrick's
iiDay, initiated a Saint Patrick's Day Parade and related festivities; and,
WHEREAS, each year the participants of the celebration and parade
have increased; and,
WHEREAS, the 1979 Saint Patrick's Day Parade, contained over thirty
(30) different units, including floats, marching bands and musical groups,
making this the largest parade since its inception; and,
WHEREAS, area merchants lent their support to the festival by
taking out advertisements; and,
WHEREAS, this Saint Patrick's Day celebration has resulted in
bringing the City of Delray Beach, Florida, much prestige and celebrity; and,
WHEREAS, the South County Drug Abuse Foundation and other worth-
iwhile local Charities have received benefits through the funds raised by
the Saint Patrick's Day CelebratiOn,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach,
Florida, hereby commends the Saint Patrick's Day Committee and Maurice
Power for their hard work and efforts in organizing and conducting the
Saint Patrick's Day Celebration in the City of Delray Beach, Florida.
Section 2. That this resolution shall become effective immediately
iupon its passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED in regular session on this the 9th day of
April, 1979.
