A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY
BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THAT ~tE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE
NAME THE LINTON BOULEVARD BRIDGE AS THE "JACK L. SAUNDERS
BRIDGE" AND TO PROVIDE TH~ FUNDING NECESSARY TO PURCHASE
AND ERECT A PLAQUE SO DESIGNATING THE BRIDGE.
WHEREAS, Jack L. Sanders was the Mayor of the City of Delray
Beach, Florida, in 1949, 1951, and from 1968 through 1971; and served
as a member of the City Council in 1950, 1953, from 1964 through 1966,
and from 1972 through 1974; and,
WHEREAS, Jack Lo Saunders was held in the highest esteem by
the citizens of Delray Beach for his tireless efforts in making local
government responsive to the public; and,
WHEREAS, Jack Lo Saunders continued to serve the Community until
his passing on November 16, 1978; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Delray Beach wishes
to further the memory of Jack L. Saunders by having the bridge on Linton
Boulevard named after him by the Florida Legislature,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray 'Beach ,
Florida, hereby requests that the Florida Legislature name the new bridge
being constructed on Linton Boulevard in the City of Delray Beach as the
"Jack L. Saunders Bridge", and that the Florida Legislature provide the
funding necessary to purchase and erect a plaque so designating said bridge.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to furnish
a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Rep. Tom Lewis, and to such
other members of the Florida Legislature and other public officials and
agencies as is necessary.
PASSED AND ADOPTED in regular session on this the 26th day
of November, 1979.
