Res 44-78 RESOLUTION NO. 44-78 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRA¥ BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO REASSIGN A MEDIA CLERK TO PLUMOSA SCHOOL IN ORDER TO UTILIZE EFFECTIVELY THE MEDIA CENTER BEING CONSTRUCTED WITH FUNDS ALLOCATED BY THE CITY. WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach has received a grant of $872,000 from the Economic Development Administration in 1977; and, WHEREAS, a requirement for receipt of the grant funds was that the City enter into discussion with the School Board to consider allocating a portion of the grant funds to the Palm Beach County School System; and, WHEREAS, based on indications presented to the City of the need for a media center at Plumosa School and benefit to the citizens of the City and the area, on June 24, 1977, the City Council voted to allocate $322,000 of said grant for said purpose; and, WHEREAS, the media center cannot be effectively utilized without the employment of a media clerk to assist the media instructor; and, WHEREAS, the need for the continued employment of a media clerk is of critical importance in this instance, since the new media center is approximately six times the size of the existing media center at the Plumosa School; and, WHEREAS, School Board policy permits media clerks only at schools having a student population of 500 or more; and, WHEREAS, the student population at Plumosa School has dropped slightly below the 500 figure to 494 students; and, WHEREAS, said grant funds have already been allocated and are currently being expended for the construction of the media center; and, WHEREAS, the new media center cannot be properly utilized without adequate staffing including the media clerk, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Delray Beach hereby requests the Palm Beach County School Board to reassign a media clerk to Plumosa School to permit the effective utilization of the new media center being constructed at this School. Section 2. That copies of this resolution shall be sent to all members of the School Board, the Superintendent of Schools of Palm Beach County and the area Superintendent.
