A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY
BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING NEGOTIATION FOR THE PURCHASE
OF AN IBM MODEL 34 COMPUTER.
WHEREAS, in 1970 when the System 3, Model 10 Computer was purchased,
the City of Delray Beach had. approximately 5500 customer accounts in the
~utility billing system; and,
WHEREAS, the capacity of the System 3, Model 10 Computer, is
'~10,000 accounts and the City now has approximately 10,000 accounts; and,
WHEREAS, to eliminate the necessity of double billing in the utility
isystem, it is necessary to update and acquire new equipment; and,
WHEREAS, in the 1977-78 Budget $127,450 was budgeted for the
~acquisition of an IBM System~ 3, Model 12 Computer; and,

WHEREAS, since that date IBM has announced a new product, an IBM
!Model 34 Computer which is superior in its performance to the IBM System 3,
~iModels 10 and 12; and,

WHEREAS, the reasons for converting to the IBM System 34 rather
ithan equipment of another manufacturer is based on excellent performance the
ii. City has received over the last eight years from the System 3 and because the
~iprogram language (RPG II) is also the language of the System 34 and the pro-
igrams currently being used can be converted for use on this new equipment.
~,It is estimated, conservatively, that the City has $30,000 to $35,000 invested
~ln time and money in the development of our current programs; and,
WHEREAS, it is recommended by the Administration that it is in the
~Ibest interest of the City of Delray Beach to purchase the IBM Model 34
Compute r,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
~DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Purchasing Agent is hereby authorized to
negotiate the acquisition of an IBM Model 34 Computer at a cost of $103,046,
a savings of $24,404 less than the current budgeted amount.
