Res 25-77 RESOLUTION NO. 25-77. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO PROVIDE IN ITS 1977-78 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET THE SUM OF $500,000 TO BE USED AS THE STATE CONTRIBUTION TOWARD THE CONSTRUCTION COST OF THE DELRA'Y BEACH RENOURISHMENT AND PRESERVA- TION PROGRAM. WHEREAS, this City suffered severe beach erosion and loss of ocean front lands for many years prio~ to 1973; .and, WHEREAS, the City, assisted with financial aid by the state, federal and county governments restored the beach in 1973 at a cost of approximately $2.8 million; and, W~EREAS, the City's beach restoration and preservation program re- quires periodi~ maintenance nourishment; and, WHEREAS, it is essential that the City's beach be nourished this year, even though the restoration project has been'phenomenally successful in that the sand loss has been considerably less'than anticipated, in order to pre- serve the 6cean front and not lose the $2.8 million inveStment that was made in the restoration of the beach in 1973; and, WHEREAS, the City through its consulting engineers~has prepared plans and specifications and obtained all required approvals, including the ap- proval of the Florida Cabinet and other state agencies and officials pre- paratory to nourishing its beach in June, 1977; and, WHEREAS, the City requested state participation in the funding of the nourishment project in the amount of $500,000 and the State Department of Natural Resources recommended the inclusion of the said $500,000 in the Governor's proposed budget to the Florida Legislature; and, WHEREAS, the Governor's budget does not contain the $500,000 that is critical to the funding of the Delray Beach nouris~.ent project; NOW, THEREFORE', BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL. OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council, by unanimous vote, respect'fully request: the Florida Legislature to provide in its budget for the 1977-78 fiscal year the sum of $500,000 to be used as the State contribution toward the Delray Beach beach nourishment and preservation program. ~ Section 2. Tkat copies of this resolution are to be forwarded to the Governor, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House and members of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation.
