A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, IN PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA,
IN SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION R-74-635 AND R-74-641
OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, WHICH WERE PASSED FOR THE
PURPOSE OF SECURING REACTIVATION AND CONTINUA-
TION OF FUNDING FOR THE PALM BEACH COUNTY BEACH
EROSION CONTROL PROJECT AND RELATED STUDIES.
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Palm Beach County is
committed to a continuing program of beach restoration and nourish-
ment which embraces: Concept Development, schematic, preliminary
design, final design and construction activities as shown in Figure
7.1 attached; and,
WHEREAS, Palm Beach County with a present total population of
450,000, has 44.9 miles of beach servicing 18 coastal communities,
which comprise four inlet districts and corresponding coastal bar-
rier island areas, having a projected 1975 total population of
37,000, and a projected 1990 total population of 83,000 as shown
in Table 2.2 attached; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Delray Beach having 3.03 miles of beach
is one of the aforementioned 18 communities; and,
WHEREAS, the estimated cost of $17,500,000 as outlined in
Table 7.2 attached and illustrated in Figure 7.2 attached, are be-
yond the ability of the County to bare exclusively, and in consider-
ation of the patent long-term benefits to all residents in Palm Beach
County including those of the City of Delray Beach; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Delray Beach having
received advance copies of the subject resolution is cognizant of
the need to assure the preservation of its beach area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COL~CIL OF THE CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the city of Delray Beach urges
the Department of the Army, Corps of Engineers, to reactivate and
continue the Palm Beach Erosion Control Project, specifically, Lake
Worth Inlet to South Lake Worth Inlet, Florida.
SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Delray Beach urges
the support of the State of Florida Department of Natural Resources
requested in the Palm Beach County Resolution R-74-635.
SECTION 3. The City Council of the City of Delray Beach in
recognition of the fact that the County of Palm Beach is committed
to the long-term project, that it continue its pursuit of funding
support at the State and Federal levels and maintain the integrity
of the concept and planning ~hat the City of Delray Beach has
reviewed and subsequently endorsed in principle.

of August, 1974.
